August 8, 2010 - 12:16 pm 5 Comments

i have a bought a 0.15 acre piece of land for 100000 pounds. it says it has planning permission for a 3 bedroom house? does this mean it would be illegal if i build a 4 bedroom house with a outdoor swimming pool in the land? the pool is very important to me.

No, it isn’t legal. You would also need separate permission for the pool.

How can I turn my bedroom into a spa retreat? Please give me tips to make it a relaxing & tranquil atmosphere?

August 6, 2010 - 1:53 pm 4 Comments

My bedroom has gray-lavender walls, with white ceilings and light hardwood floors. Very simple.

I would really want to turing it into something that looks like a spa room. Something with beautiful (but contemporary/modern) decorations and ultra soft, romantic glowing lights.

Any tips?

Your walls are a perfect color as are your floors. They speak to a contemporary look. Choose a rich silver blue fabric for your bedding. Night tables should be simple and elegant or build them into the wall on either side of the bed. Use wall sconces with up/down lighting on either side as opposed to table lamps. If you can wire your ceiling hang a classy chandelier on dimmers. Use silk floor to ceiling drapes at your windows. If your bedroom is large enough, add an ottoman in a rich lustrous fabric….something soft. Add a soft furlike throw to the bottom of the bed. A wonderful chair/lounger in a soft fabric would be a great addition if you have room. Accessories should be simple. A few tall floor vases with reeds, pick up additional colors by adding simple contemporary artwork, and keep your dressers clean and simple. Comfort and spa is defined by clean lines and mute colors. It doesn’t mean you can’t have a piece of artwork that adds a burst of color. It’s more about clean soft comfy fabrics and colors.

How can I decorate my bedroom walls for cheap?

August 6, 2010 - 1:53 pm 5 Comments

Hello,
we just moved from Germany to the USA and had to spend a lot of money on the move. Now I don’t have a whole lot of money left for decoration, and our bedroom walls in our apartment are just plane white and boring. I would like to hang some black and white art or pictures. How can I do something like this my selfe for cheap? It doesn’t have to be black and white though. I’m open for everything. Does anybody have any idea? I hope you can help me! Thank you so much.

I like the first answer but if thats not what you want to do, you could paint (or have) a mural painted on the wall actually from a photo, your favorite painting etc. in black and white….or you could put fabric on the walls, its really not as bad as it sounds. Depending on how its done, it can actually turn out beautiful! You could also use stencils and paint patterns on them….another thing you could do is paint words on the walls… like ”dream” ….. ”imagine” etc. I know its child like but if its done well and in the right colors, your room will actually have a more relaxed atmosphere. I read that one in an article on hgtv. Anyway good luck!

I going to Madrid this June planning to stay 90 days. It is too much time for paying a Hostal or even a Hostel at $15 or
$20 a day. Can I beat this price renting a bedroom with a family? How do I go about it. The only web site I could find was "easypiso", but it is mainly for young people. I am 62.

What is the ideal humidity in the bedroom when we sleep?

August 6, 2010 - 1:48 pm 2 Comments

I’ve heard that having the heater on all night is a bit too dry to our bodies. It’s better to have some moisture in our bedrooms. Then what is the ideal humidity in the bedroom when we sleep?
How many degrees on a humidifier?

well mostly every home isnt sufficent in humidity. I’d say in order to get to the ideal point just get a room sized humidifier. They help a ton for those people with allegies and sinus problems. It does help in general too. The humidifiers are usually not expensive. you can find one at your CVS or a Walgreens.

How to change a bedroom style working around a contradictory bed?

August 6, 2010 - 1:48 pm 1 Comment

Currently the bedroom is black and pink and holds a large black leather bed. But I want to change the style to a more feminine pastels and vintage style. What’s the best way to do this whilst keeping the bed?

Is the part of the bed that is black leather the headboard? If so its possible to reupholster the headboard if you are ok with that. Or if the headboard is removable you can get rid of it all together and hang something on the wall instead. But if you were going for 50′s retro kind of vintage then black is perfect.

I looked around and found some pastel colored comforters that go well with a black bed that may help inspire you:

Purple walls black ceiling topped off with glow in the dark stars

How often should I be vacuuming my bedroom?

August 6, 2010 - 1:45 pm 9 Comments

I have a cat – who sheds a lot. His litter box is in the bathroom that is directly off of my bedroom..so i vacuum the bathroom daily (sometimes multiple times a day)…

My bedroom only gets vacuumed once a week (saturdays). With the cat shedding so much this summer I’ve been vacuuming a little more than usual..

My room doesnt really get dirty (other than my cat who basically doesnt leave my room). I dont eat in here, nobody wears shoes in here..so theirs really not a lot of dirt or crums that get tracked through here…

How often should i be vacuuming. Does once every other day sound reasonable?

I think the answer to this is personal preference. I have three cats and vacuum once or twice a week. My carpet is whitish so it never looks dirty from their shedding….so, it depends on the color of your carpet, if you have allergies (or anyone else in the house), and just how much time you have…if you have time to do it every day or every other day then great—go for it!
