When the heat comes up in my private house there is a fishy smell that permeates one of the bedrooms. Why?

August 6, 2010 - 2:13 pm 3 Comments

My house is a cape cod style, with 2 bedrooms upstairs, when the central heating kicks in and starts blowing, the fishy smell is horrible in one of the upstairs bedrooms. I just changed the vents 1 month ago… what could it be.

You might have a dead animal (like a mouse) in the duct work. Decaying animals do tend to smell like that.

which should I do first refinish hardwood floors or put new carpet in bedrooms?

I’m redoing my house and redoing the hardwood floors in my living and dining room and putting new carpet in my bedroooms. Which one should I do first? I think it would be better to put carpet in the bedrooms first so I don’t mess up the new finish moving a bunch of furnature around, but I’ve been told I should do the carpet last so they don’t get messed up from all the dust. I’m planning on taping the rooms off to minimize dust, should that be enough? just figured I’d ask the experts……thanks

the wood floors. because there’s the dust & also a oder from the varsih that goes onto the floors. You don’t want that getting into NEW carpet.

My house has 4 bedrooms, but the appraiser says I can only count 2 because 2 are in the finished basement?

Do downstairs bedrooms not count on an appraisal?

talk to real estate people in your area…different areas have different "rules" that applicable to this. I ran into this problem with one appraiser and it turned out he didn’t know what the heck he was talking about…it was as if he as ignoring half my house…I has a totally finished den, bathroom and 2 bedrooms constructed by the builder and previously included in all other appraisals. We got another appraiser…turns out the appraiser we had was from another state and didn’t know what he was talking about.

Is it a bad idea when your married to have separate bedrooms and bathrooms?

August 6, 2010 - 2:07 pm 16 Comments

I just cant take it anymore my husband smells leaves his dirty socks all around doesnt clean up after himself and I am done with it. He says he will do whatever he can to make me happy and I really think at least giving separate bedrooms a try wouldnt be so bad. He stated the other night that he was capable of taking care of himself ……… well would it be a strain on our relationship if we were more like roomates?

Honestly…. there is nothing wrong with separate spaces… me and my husband have separate bedrooms and bathrooms because we have different schedules and my husband is a very light sleeper… I like to stay up late and he likes to go to bed early….. if I move in the night, he wakes up and stares at the ceiling for a few hours… so after our daughter was born she slept with me… and he moved into the spare room…. and well six years later.. we still have separate quarters… and it works. When we are in the mood, we visit one another… and sometimes stay the night. I have real estate agents as friends and they have told me many new housing starts have two master bedrooms…. especially the older people as women who go through menopause cant stand someone sleeping with them… they get sweaty.. then cold and it just doesnt help with a body next to one….. some will say to you "oh but that is wrong, as husband and wife you should be sleeping in the same bed" why? so he can roll over on top when he wants sex???? I mean isnt a bed all about rest??? I say go for it. My marriage is strong so I dont buy into what others think of my arrangement.

good luck

What is the best way to go about swapping bedrooms?

August 6, 2010 - 2:07 pm 3 Comments

I’m swapping bedrooms with my sister, and she has alot of clothes, but the wardrobe in my room is quite small.
how do we do this (like, what do we move first, etc)? and what do we do about her excess clothes?

she could get some plastic stackable drawers to put under her bed to put extra clothes in, you can get them at home depot, lowes or the container store. just pull all the furniture out of one room and leave it in an open space outside of the two rooms like in the living room if thats close, then move all the stuff out of the other room into the now empty room. then the stuff out of the living room into the other room.

I need decorating ideas for my upstairs bedrooms please?

August 6, 2010 - 5:25 am 3 Comments

I have a cape cod home… and two bedrooms & one bath upstairs… in each room there is this small little boxed in space at the window ( on the front of the house) I need some ideas on what I can do with that space.. and my downstairs is earthtone colors but I want to paint the bedrooms something that will "pop" out at you… any ideas on what to paint those bedrooms also?

Those little alcoves are great for window seats. If you can find a sturdy bookcase (probably a two-shelfer) that fits the width of the window you could put that right under it, get a cushion (maybe an outdoor one on clearance) and a few pillows and you have a nice little reading nook, plus storage for some books. You could also use a trunk, which would also allow storage for linens or out of season clothing.

Also, depending on how wide the space is, you could put a writing desk and chair or a vanity table.

Any easy ways to make wood floorings look good again? I recently bought a home and the bedrooms have wood?

floors. It is an older home (’64) and the floors in the bedrooms are pretty scuffed up. I don’t want to spend a whole lot doing the flooring. I know it can be polished professionally and stuff but that costs too much. Is there an easier way to get it to look nice again??

What age would you put twins in different bedrooms?

August 5, 2010 - 4:31 pm 39 Comments

I was wondering at what age would you put twins in different bedrooms or doesn’t really matter?
Is it better if they shared a room?
Would it make their bond stronger?
They are 6 months old
They are boy/girl twins.
Sometimes Daisy wakes up and then She wakes up Bailey and vice versa.

If space is not an issue, whenever they request separate rooms – shouldn’t be for several years.

If space is an issue, whenever they move out and have their own homes.

If conjoined twins, not a good idea!

How much are apartments that have 2 bedrooms, fully furnished cost.?

I’m thinking about moving out there with my boyfrined but we both don’t make much money but want to move out to california. We both make minimum wage. How much are apartments that have 2 bedrooms, fully furnished cost. We don’t really care where and we would be splitting rent with another couple who also makes minimum wage.

depends what part of ca youre in. prices vary by area. go check craigslist.com for some ideas. thats what i did.
