How do communities work on fanfiction?

August 6, 2010 - 2:10 pm 1 Comment

m, I’m new to fanfiction and I was wondering how communities work? I mean, does the manager browse and picks stories that s/he likes or do you send in your story?

Pretty much, or good stories that fit the theme or pairing of the community. Like some only have romance with character X or X/Y stories, or AUs only.

What international communities will think about Indian election ?

August 6, 2010 - 2:10 pm 5 Comments

Is this really a democratic election or communal election. Or merely exploiting the people in the name of democracy. How our next Prime Minister will face the international communities as a communal Prime Minister. Please use your common sense if you are not qualified.

They have no positive feeling for the present govt.

How were the earliest civilizations different from Neolithic communities?

August 6, 2010 - 2:02 pm 1 Comment

How were the earliest civilizations different from Neolithic communities? What structures (laws, religion, economic systems) did these civilizations use to bind people together? Include detailed examples from three of the earliest civilizations (Mesopotamia, Egypt, China, Indus River, Olmec, Chavin).

-the Sumerians of Mesopotamia where the first to create written language

-Egypt was probably the first Empire, organized and unified for 3000 years.

How does big game hunting in north America, Europe and Africa benefit nature and local communities?

August 6, 2010 - 2:02 pm 6 Comments

Firstly, please note that this question is clearly not aimed at the anti-hunting, anti-gun lobby, so please don’t answer with such comments.

I am not a hunter myself but I am very interested in the history of hunting and the activity itself.

I would be very grateful if anybody could tell me, in terms a layman could understand, how hunting is not purely a selfish pass-time but also benefits the natural environment and local communities?

Thanks.

Wildlife management officials, unlike most other governmental agencies, usually do their jobs well. They use hunting licenses and limits on hunters to control and maintain healthy game populations and provide for other wild species as well. If allowed to over-populate, many grazing species will cause irreparable damage to ecosystems and have ripple effects through the food chain leading to possible soil erosion and even the extinction of competing species.

Fees from hunting and fishing provide valuable funding for these wildlife programs.

In areas rich in game, entire economies are created that support and service these hunters. Many rural areas rely completely on the guides, outfitters, lodging and transportation around hunting and fishing. In many areas, the only alternative economy to agriculture is the hunting and fishing tourism economy.

The products of harvesting wild game provide healthy, valuable, alternative food sources than the mass produced supermarket food.

Why cant ppl migrating to Mumbai learn Marathi and try to live in separate communities?

August 6, 2010 - 2:02 pm 1 Comment

Marathi is the official language of maharashtra and it is the duty of every citizen of maharashtra to learn it. Plus, calling it as multicultural externally, there is no need to make separate communities (e.g. gujarati community in ghatkopar or muslim community in sandhurst rd). And there is no need to introduce any cultural/ethnic quota for higher education in colleges and institutes, it should be purely on merit.

Why do people always try to separate everybody?!

Explain the responsibilities upstream communities have for ensuring that high-quality water is delivered to do?

August 6, 2010 - 2:02 pm 1 Comment

I want details explain the responsibilities upstream communities have for ensuring that high-quality water is delivered to downstream communities.

Just a few things a responsible upstream area would implement:

1. Control runoff. Runoff from fields soaked in chemicals leach these into rivers as well as salts from the soil.
Runoff from streets, etc. that have garbage and animal waste.
Runoff from industry with chemicals and poisons.

2. Control how much water they take. A healthy river needs to maintain flow so if they take too much water it will cause the level and speed to decrease too much.

3. Control industry and/or sewage processing that is directing effluent into the river. Chemicals and poisons. Also sometimes industry uses the water as a coolant and when it is circulated back into the river it is a higher temp. than is healthy for the river.

4. Monitor the river for invasive species (plants and animals), pollution, etc. and take actions to correct problems.

How do I find key influencers within online communities?

August 6, 2010 - 1:59 pm 1 Comment

I want to identify who the key influencers within online communities. Are there any applications or tools I can download / use to do this.

For example, Twitalizer gives statistics on users and their influence, which is great. However, it does not list all the users’ statistics, only a few.

For example, if I want to find the key influencers within a certain subject matter, such as ‘equestrian sport’. How do I go about this?

You’re asking a question every marketer on this planet wants to know. Read up about marketing, and here’s the link – you’re after the "early adopters"

What Can Communities do to prevent Police Brutality?

August 6, 2010 - 1:59 pm 10 Comments

what is a solution to police brutality? that communities could do prevent it from occurring? it does seem like it’s out of the hands of residents but isn’t there any type of action that citizens can take to try and put a stop to it?

shouldn’t your focus be more on helping the police cut down on crime since a helluva lot more of that occurs than police brutality.

Is there a high rate of sexual offenses in nudist communities?

August 6, 2010 - 1:59 pm 7 Comments

I just watched Taboo: Nudism from national geographic and I saw a nudist community with young and old people, including children. I am just wondering if anything happens inside those communities that would be against the law in the U.S.. Do they have a nudist police force?

Nudist communities have strict rules/etiquette and must comply with the laws of the state/country in which they operate. They are not centres of free love or open relationships or paedophilia. They are communities of people who accept their naked form for what it is and prefer to live uninhibited by clothes. Everyone is equal when naked and people learn to accept differences and commonalities. That isn’t to say the usual gamut of human emotions do not occur nor are nudist communities a Utopia. I do believe that there may be less offences because of the nature of nudist communities and the attitude of the inhabitants.
