Right now 1.1 billion people on the planet don’t have access to safe, clean drinking water. That’s one in six of us. Many communities in developing nations often have a plentiful supply of clean drinking water just below the ground, but no way to get to it. This is where charity: water and their partner organizations come in. Drilling a well can cost from $4,000 – $12,000 USD and many living on less than $1 a day cannot afford one in their community, even if the money is combined.
On 12 February 2009, 100+ international cities will be hosting a Twestival to bring Twitter communities together in an effort to raise money for charity: water. Twestival is organized 100% by international volunteers around the world and 100% of the money raised from these events will go directly to support charity: water projects. By rallying together globally, under short timescales, for a single aim on the same day, the Twestival hopes to bring awareness to this global crisis.
Please support the Twestival efforts for charity: water by making a donation, attending an event or participating in one of our many online fundraising activities.

The Story of Stuff exposes the connections between a huge number of environmental and social issues, and calls us together to create a more sustainable and just world. It’ll teach you something, it’ll make you laugh, and it just may change the way you look at all the stuff in your life forever.
Despite heated objections by some Republicans, the unread 1,200-page Waxman-Markey climate bill was passed 219-212 in the House on Friday.
Final roll call votes are listed here.
During Boehners brief attempt at filibuster, he reads passages related to the usage of “qualified youth corps” to regulate energy efficiency in regards to “the sustainability of low-end income communities.” “I wonder if ACORN qualifies for these grants,” Boehner quipped.
Objecting to the fact that 300 pages were added to the bill at 3 a.m., Minority leader John Boehner attempted a brief filibuster, giving time for colleagues and aides to scan the unread extra passages and present certain excerpts on the floor. Politico blasts his effort, reporting:
That wasnt good enough for House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio), who delayed the roll call vote by reading page-by-page through a 300-page managers amendment Democrats added at around 3 a.m. Friday. Boehner seemed to relish the hour-long stunt, picking out the bills most obscure language and then pontificating about what it might or might not mean.
Shockingly, co-sponsor Henry Waxman objected to Boehners reading the bill on the House floor, and tried to prevent it on procedural grounds so that is contents would remain unknown and no one would shift support or delay the bills passage. Passing laws in secret is not law at all it is tyranny, and it is shameful:
Waxman also wondered if any historical records would be broken by Boehner reading part of the bill and queried whether the tactic was an attempt to try to get some people to leave on a close vote.
From the works of Living Enlightened Master Paramahamsa Nithyananda. In this clip taken from discourse tiled, ” Grow with Sensitivity”, Swamiji tells us that all prophets that happened on the planet earth had difficulty in not being readily accepted in their communities. The beauty of Thiruvannamalai is that the unbroken lineage of enlightened beings for the last 2,000 years. This unique heritage in Thiruvannamalai allowed people to easily accept Him as the living master. In this clip Swamiji also goes on to describe the traits of a living master — intense passion in the present moment. The complete discourse may be ordered online at www.lifeblissgalleria.com.

If we give agriculture a specific definition, then agriculture is a major problem. But if we realize that there are gradations in the technae of agriculture, and that we could talk about horticulture, for example, which I think the modern version would be permaculture. Charles Fourier, who is one of my main guys, was one of the first critics of agriculture. And he realized that civilized agriculture was very destructive of community, and of well-bring, for everybody except the rulers. And so he proposed that we revert, in a sense, to horticulture, so that, for example, only small amounts of grain would be grown, and those would be for special treats, like little pastries that he was so fond of. But they would no longer be the staple, because the kind of agriculture needed to produce that staple was just too counter-productive, in terms of a free and delightful communal existence. So that’s why he puts so much emphasis on fruit and on orchard-based horticulture…
