Chatsworth one of England most statly home’s. Originally build as a Country Home for the Duke’s of Devonshire and his family. The building started 1553 and one Duke build something and another added some more and finally in the mid 18 century the Duke Family was satisfied with the Country Estate. Chatsworth has 126 rooms, and nearly 100 of them are not seen by visitors. The house is well-adapted to allow the family to live privately in their apartments while the house is open, and the Dowager Duchess describes the family rooms in detail in her book Chatsworth.
Chatsworth Library is the largest private libray in England with almost 27000 books collected during several centuries. The old library have 17000 boks from the first 7 dukes of Devonshire and the “new” private family Library has a stunning collection of almost 10000 book’s collected of the 5 past Dukes’s family of Devonshire.

The Chatsworth was the mingle place for writer’s artist’s,intellektual’s and ofcourse the European royalties and aristokracy. The Devonshire family are among the richest in England in 2004 they was on the 67th place.
What does Chatsworth so special: One reason for that: its fullpacked with world famous painting’s, artwork and sculpture’s. The main painters of the world are good represented at Chatsworth and the family have the largest collection in Engand of Rembrandts, Van Dycks and Raphaels etc..etc…
Chatsworth is not the sort of house which perfectly illustrates the architecture and interior decoration of one particular period. Its layout is unique and full of irregularities because the 1st and 6th Dukes both inherited an old house and tried to adapt in to the lifestyle of their time without changing the fundamentals of its layout. At no time might an architect have sat at his drawing board and designed a house like Chatsworth from scratch. After the same fashion the interiors are a hodgepodge of different styles. Many of the rooms are recognisably of one main period, but in nearly every case they have been altered more often than might be supposed at first glance.
Chatsworth’s garden is one of the most famous in the United Kingdom, and attracts around a third of a million visitors a year. It is a complex and diverse blend of informal and formal features from six different centuries which covers 105 acres (0.4 km²) and is surrounded by a wall 1.75 miles (2.8 km) long. It sits on the eastern side of the valley of the River Derwent and blends seamlessly into the landscape of the surrounding park, which covers 1,000 acres (4 km²). The woods on the moors to the east of the valley form a backdrop to the garden. There is a staff of approximately 20 full-time gardeners. The average rainfall is around 33.7 inches (855 mm) a year, and average sunshine hours are 1,160 a year. Almost all of the principal features of the garden were created in five main phases of development.
It has been many famous Duke and Duchess’s at Chatsworth. The presently Duchess Deborah in modern times she is Famous because she belong to the 6 Mitford’s sisters and she have really put her name in the history and also done alot for Chatsworth.
One quite famous Duchess was Georgiana who married the 5th Duke of Devonshire. The movie “The Duchess” was all played in Chatsworth.(2008), featuring Keira Knightley and Ralph Fiennes
Pride and Prejudice. Chatsworth House appeared in the 2005 film adaptation of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. It represented Pemberley, Mr. Darcy’s home. The house itself is named in the novel as one of the estates Elizabeth visits with her Aunt and Uncle Gardiner before arriving at Pemberley.
The Wolfman. Chatsworth was used in the filming of the 2009 film, featuring Benicio Del Toro and Anthony Hopkins, amongst many others.
