If I have the land & floor plan how much does it cost to build a 4 bdrm house w/3 baths ?

August 5, 2010 - 4:33 pm 3 Comments

We own 2 1/2 acres and would like to build a 4 bdrm 3 bath block house We also have the floor plan fo the house we would like built. How much would it cost if we already have this in advance?

Figure $100 per sq ft for cheap construction, $150 for decent construction or $300 for high end custom. (not including land)

So for a 2,000 sq ft house that would be $200K for a cheap build, $300K for a moderate build and $600K for a custom nice build.

How can I find the floor-plan of Chicago Federal Buildings?

August 5, 2010 - 2:22 pm 2 Comments

I’m a freshmen in Architecture program, and I’m doing a research on that group of buildings, so I’m wondering if there’s a way I can get a hold of the floor plan….and maybe even a tour in those buildings…..help please?

I would suspect (hope) that this information is classified to some degree. You could contact the relevant agencies and ask, but don’t be surprised if they tell you that this is sensitive information.

I have the basic floor plan how can I get the electrical drawn ?

August 5, 2010 - 2:21 pm 3 Comments

i have the floorplan but want to show the electrition where to put outlets, cat 5, telephone and security wiring panals. in adition to ceiling fan with lights in every room. is there software I can lay over my existing floor plans to do this ? or must I hire someone?

Very simple. When you do the walk through with the electrician, he will mark on the studs, exactly where you want the switches, lights, cat V, telephone. etc. From experience I do it all the time with my clients. I also advise them what is required by code just so there is no misunderstanding. It is important that you take the time to think it through yourself (what are all your wants and needs) prior to the walk through. This is the best (and cheapest) time to make your wish list. Once the rough in is complete. Go through the wiring with the electrician again to confirm. If there are changes, make them now before you board. It is easier to see things "in the flesh" than to try and imagine them.

i was wondering what would a loading dock door look like on a floor plan?

I know what a regular door illustration looks like on a floor plan but i don’t know what a loading dock looks like on a floor plan. Could you please inform me on this topic.

It would show the opening to whatever size it is and a notation that reads OHD or overhead door and possibly with a note as to who the manufacturer is

Where can I go to create a classroom floor plan?

August 5, 2010 - 2:21 pm 1 Comment

I need to create a classroom floor plan, and it needs to be done electronically. Do you know of any websites??

You could try http://www.floorplanner.com/ and choose a Personal plan. Gliffy (http://www.gliffy.com/) is also a great alternative. They’re both free.

Good luck!

Coloring the floor plan in Autodesk Revit Architecture 2008?

August 5, 2010 - 1:36 pm 2 Comments

For an assignment, I need to color the floor plan (like the floor is one color, every computer you see is one color, etc)
I found out how to do the walls, but the same thing doesnt apply for other components.
How do I do this?

Well since Revit doesn’t use Layers I believe you’ll find the previous answer to not be as helpful as you may like.

To effect colors of certain entities you may be required to go into the Element Properties of certain entities and then change their material (in the material properties) to something of the color that you need. The other option (much less precise, but faster on a global scale) is to adjust the View Properties – Visibility Graphics Overrides of a series of objects.

In the end there is one other option, selecting the object, right clicking, then selecting Override Graphics in View and finally expanding Surface Patterns and selecting a solid fill surface pattern and color. None will fix everything fast, but it can be done fairly quickly with practice.

What does ST stand for on a floor plan?

August 5, 2010 - 1:36 pm 3 Comments

On the floor plan it looks about the same size as a wardrobe but I cant think what it stands for.
I have looked and it is definately ST. I have had a thought that it could mean storage as they do look cupboard sized.

ST is usually the abbreviation for STONE in a floor plan.
Possibly a stone fireplace there.

what paint color can i use in an open studio floor plan?

August 5, 2010 - 1:36 pm 4 Comments

we’re renovating a small studio apartment with an open floor plan. for the kitchen we chose to go with a black and white scheme to keep it simple/modern. what paint color would be a good choice for the walls? we are going to rent the space so we feel it’s safer to go with some form of a neutral, but we don’t want to be boring. any suggestions are greatly appreciated. thanks.

how to draw floor plan using adobe illustrator?

August 5, 2010 - 12:13 pm 1 Comment

I’m a beginner doing an assignment drawing floor plan using adobe illustrator. It would be helpful if you can provide any guidance. Thanks is advance.

a simple floor plan would be basically drawing shapes for floor, furniture, measurements, and then apply colors and patterns, would be good idea to use layers for each topic or set of object, floors, walls, furniture, there can be options on how to draw line as single line with width, or two lines with fill,
check your options for file formats for saving and export / import, you can also use live trace path to convert images to vector,
