W have just bought a block and want to start looking at floor plans to get ideas for layouts but cant find any online that i can view for free and save to my computer. Any ideas where i might be able to find some?
The sites below may be a help. You can also find magazines of nothing but house plans at any stores that sells magazines from Walmart to Lowes.

I am buying a house but have not received a floor plan yet with exact dimensions. I was wondering if anyone knows how to obtain them. Are they public record somewhere?

depends on the age of the house and your particular county. i’ve seen some where it was a hand drawn sketch. if it’s a newer tract home, you can go to the builder but that will only give you a floorplan without dimensions. but the best way is to hire an appraiser. they can do what’s called a "draw inspection" where they simply measure your house for you using the standards that are required by the profession- and that are accepted by the assessor. if you had an appraisal done during your purchase process then it will already be in the report (assuming it was a full appraisal)

Ask the authorities! floor plans are given to police, fire, and rescue officials for quick access to buildings in an emergency!

Residential floor plans for historical buildings are what I’m looking for… for example the floor plan for Summerwind mansion in Wisconsin, before it was destroyed. I once found the floor plan for the Amityville house (I forgot how to spell that) in the book by Jay Anson. I’m wondering if there is a free site where you can view floor plans like that. BA goes to whoever finds me the most direct link.
There doesn’t seem to be any one specific place that collects these things.
For that building in particular, I would ask around at the University of Wisconsin or any nearby University with a good Architecture dept. You might even try the town hall and library where the house was located to see what they may have on record.
