Building a House in The Sims 2 – #2

August 5, 2010 - 7:43 pm 25 Comments

*EDIT JAN 11TH, ’09*
Warner Music Group decided they didn’t want people to listen to a song that was featured in the background of this Sims fan video, so unfortunately all audio had to be removed. It’s petty and stupid I know, but hey. The hundreds of other videos on this site with music from warner-signed artists are obviously just not important to them. This is the reason for the lack of music, so feel free to play your own tracks. :)
*END EDIT*

**HOW TO ATTACH A GARAGE TO A FOUNDATION**
I’ve been getting lots of people asking me this, so here is where I learned it all: a very helpful tutorial on thesims2.ea.com

http://thesims2.ea.com/exchange/story_detail.php?asset_id=53487&asset_type=story&user_id=214169

A second video of me building a house in super speed in TS2.

I tried to show a little more furnishing this time, as requested, but unfortunately I ran out of time to show it all. Oh well.

This was recorded with fraps and features/objects from all expansion packs were probably used. The car can be found as a free download on the official Sims 2 site.

**OTHER CHEATS**
To rotate 45 degrees:
Boolprop Allow45DegreeAngleOfRotation True (then you MUST USE the period and comma keys to rotate objects)

To move objects off-grid:
Boolprop SnapObjectsToGrid False

Don’t forget to combine with move_objects on for placement anywhere.

Enjoy ;)

This is my favorite part of the game; I love to see what kind of different elements I can bring into the architecture of the house. I’ve always wanted to make a cottage, and although this may not seem like a cottage, I know… it’s just my take on one, I also experimented with making my own roof, it looks pretty cool! Peace.

The Sims 3 – Building a House 14 – Green With Envious Springs – Part 1

August 5, 2010 - 6:39 pm 25 Comments

The link to download this house is over here:

http://www.thesims3.com/assetDetail.html?assetId=777857

Okay, the house is finished, videos are in the process of being made, they will be up within the a few hours hopefully.

I’ve started speeding up the vids by 600-800x instead of 400x cos no one wants to watch 50 mins of some guy building houses. So from now on they will be faster, which means, some details maybe too quick to follow and when I rotate the camera you may get dizzy. So I warn you all now!

Unlike my other houses, I had no initial plans or ideas before starting so from the get go I literally had to build off of nothing.

So as you can tell I’ve started to dabble with the more modern house design trends, ie. the feautre running from on top of the house, which I took from my final Sims 2 house.

The pool is split level, and “connected” but hidden by the plants cos it looked weird without them.

Not many people guessed except junkiddo, but the feature for this house is the guest house, which I took the general design from the guest house in The O.C.

I forgot to make room for the indoor garden so I’ll have to play around to make it work. The bridge I threw in, there wasn’t much thought out into it.

I’ll upload the next part sometime today.
I’ll continue the hosue later tonight.

Also, I’ve started speeding up the vids by 600-800x instead of 400x cos no one wants to watch 50 mins of some guy building houses. So from now on they will be faster, which means, some details maybe too quick to follow and when I rotate the camera you may get dizzy. So I warn you all now!

Each installment of my ‘Colour Series’ will have a new feature that I will use for the next installment, so Green will have an amalgamation of all the previous houses, effectively making it a super house!
Blue has the colour theme.
Orange has the pond.
Black and White has the lowered living room.
Red has the indoor garden… and to an extent the garage.
Green has the guest house, as well as all the others mentioned above!

Green with Envious Springs took a massive 7.5 hours to build and costs $179 000 furnished and $122 000 unfurnished.

Finally, I am NOT taking requests, AT ALL, I’ve got 2 in line to do plus some tutorials people have asked me to make. I want the freedom of making whatever I want again, and maybe go back and play Sims 2 for some more better houses!

Enjoy!

Home Music Studio Building/Construction Tips

Andrew Wasson of Creative Guitar Studio answers a viewers question…

Q: I was wondering if you could shoot a quick video and discuss your studio, especially how you have done the; ventilation, soundproofing, security, and especially air conditioning. I am in the process of making a studio here in California and I feel like I can’t get a straight answer from any of the carpenters I’ve hired in regard to these areas. It seems like the carpenters all have their own opinions and some of their ideas seem pretty bad to me. Any information you could share would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you, Chaz – Canoga Park, California

A: Thanks for writing in Chaz. Right away when I read your email I immediately sympathized with you and I went back in my mind to the days when I was building my studio and I was going through all of the issues you’re probably facing right now. Many of the concerns I faced were also in the same areas that you are concerned with as well.

Alice Cooper – House of Fire

August 4, 2010 - 10:41 pm 25 Comments

Alice Cooper – House Of Fire

House of fire
House of fire
Yeah!

Let’s build a house of fire, baby
Not one of wood or stone
Walk through my door of desire, baby
Come on in and make it your home
Don’t need a window to watch you, baby
Don’t need no roof overhead
Don’t need no key to unlock ya, baby
I’ll use my lovin’ instead
I won’t tire
Take me higher

Building a house of fire, baby
Buildin’ it with our love
We are buildin’ a house of fire every time we touch

House of fire
House of fire

We ain’t gotta pay rent now, baby
No landlord to throw us out
I want to play in your garden, baby
When you want it give me a shout
I won’t tire
Take me higher

Building a house of fire, baby
Buildin’ it with our love
We are buildin’ a house of fire every time we touch
We are building this house together, baby
Standing on solid ground
We are building a house of fire that you can’t tear down
Brick by brick the flames get higher
Build it strong with our desire
Building a house of fire, baby
Building it with our love
We are building a house of fire every time we touch
We are building this house together, baby
Standing on solid ground
We are building a house of fire that you can’t tear down
Building a house of fire, baby
Building it with our love
We are building a house of fire every time we touch

Where do you start when thinking of building your own home?

August 4, 2010 - 10:29 pm 6 Comments

My husband & I were given land by his parents to build our home on if we want to. We want to know where to start when building your own home. We want to find out what it will entail so we can better educate ourselves when deciding to buy or build.
In repsonse to Don, I’m not asking for someone to tell me how to build a house. I’m simply asking what people recommend is the first step.

I’m guessing you’re speaking of having it built instead of building it yourself. Either way, I highly suggest hiring a reputable licensed contractor with references. He will be knowledgeable in codes, regulations, and permits needed. Also a good set of plans will be needed, even though they will change along the way, (they always do) they will give you something to look at when things aren’t as you expected. Also, whatever you propose your project to cost, add a minimum 10%, if you don’t need it, good for you, it’s better than coming up short on completing your build. There will be times you’ll want to pull your hair out, but talk with your builder and don’t hesitate to ask questions, it’s your home and YOUR money, and all will go smoother!

What has been your experience in building your home from ground up?

August 4, 2010 - 10:29 pm 1 Comment

My husband and I are looking to build a home. We have not had much luck finding something that fits us. We have 3 children and need lots of space. We are not sure if we want to just find a lot and build or find a new development already in process. Please give me some good and bad experiences that you have had in building your home. Just trying to get an idea to see if this is really what we want to do.

depends on how you are going to go about it, your 3 children may be grown and out on their own by the time you get it built

How do you go about building your own home?

August 4, 2010 - 10:29 pm 1 Comment

My fiance and I are young, and will be first time home buyers.
We’ve heard that there are a lot of benefits to building your own home.

How would we go about finding out if building a home is right for us? And what are the first steps in going about doing this?

Education is the 1st step to being an owner builder.
This site should help.
I was looking into it and it’s too much work for me on my schedule.
