When interior decorating your house, what are the do’s and don’ts?

August 5, 2010 - 4:33 pm 4 Comments

Of painting and decorating?

Do pick a color that you love. The best way to help pull everything together is to find a fabric that has the color in it. Look at the other colors that are used in the pattern and use those as you accessory colors, like the drapes, curtains, throw pillows, rugs and throw blankets.
Do take time in finding the things that pull at you. Don’t just grab things because you like at that moment on time (for the larger purchases). Take the time to think it over and how you might feel about it in five years.
Do groupings of like things (accessories) in odd numbers. In nature odd numbers are the norm.
Do remember that when you’re decorating YOU have to live with it, no matter what anyone else says.

I work in interior decorating and home staging. I make very good money. Good enough to raise 3 children, have them attend private school, take horseback riding lessons and compete in the sport and I live a decent life. Put it this way, I was in criminal and family law until 2003… I’m making more money now with decorating than I did in law! And I don’t have to smile and shake any more criminals’ hands!

Who is in the interior decorating/design field?

August 5, 2010 - 2:29 pm 1 Comment

I am considering taking up interior design. What can you tell me about this field? I want to know both good and bad. If you are a student, please explain to me your experiences as to whether or not if the studying is hard because I have heard that you have to put in at least 30 hours a week of study time. And I would like to hear the views of people who work in the field. Has it been rewarding or a disappointment, please explain in details. I want only serious responses and only from people who are actually familiar with this trade.

I have a friend who does interior decorating in VA. She specializes in Mediterranean motifs and I understand that she works very hard at what she does. She has a degree in Interior Design. Her website is given below….

what to buy for a girls birthday who likes interior decorating magazines, scrapbooking, and dresses/skirts?
shes turning 14

If she loves interior decorating magazines get her a nice/fancy frame or mirror. Or get her some ornamental things for her room like a vase or candles & candle holders

For scrapbooking if you can dig up some pictures of you guys give her those and go to any scrapbooking/art supply store and get some cute stamps or those cutty things that make cool shapes lol. Cool coloured pens anre good too & fancy stationary.

For dresses and skirts buy her a couple cute skirts (dresses are harder to buy for other people)

hope that kind of helps :D !!

I have some interior decorating problems?

August 5, 2010 - 1:37 pm 5 Comments

I need some ideas on how to decorate the inside of my home. My husband and I have lived there almost 2 years and have to do any decorating. Does anyone know of any websites that can help me with this?

Home and garden TV, HGTV, has good ideas on the web. You can look at different styles and see what sort of rooms look most appealing to you. Then you can Google those decorating styles that you prefer and get more details. It’s also useful to look at rooms in furniture stores and discuss with your husband what he likes. And you may want to assess the furnishings you already own and see whether you can get inspired from those. For instance, a painting you love can give you ideas for walls and woodwork.

Can you take an online class for interior decorating?

August 5, 2010 - 1:37 pm 3 Comments

I’m thinking of going to school to become an interior decorator but I don’t think the collage in my home town offers that course. I will not move away to go to school so can I take the classes online? I could look it up but I thought i’d ask you first. What online schools are good for that? I have such a laid back job that I could do my schooling while i’m at work so an online school might be perfect for me anyway.

Pennfoster.com has a program for interior decorators.

When should you begin to prepare your own personal interior decorating portfolio?

August 5, 2010 - 11:53 am 1 Comment

A. When you work on your first decorating job
B. While you’re studying to become a decorator
C. After you complete all your decorating courses
D. After you’ve had a few years of experiencein the decorating field

A: When you work on your first decorating job.

I am currently an Interior Decorator who specializes in making fabric elements of interior design. I began my portfolio with the first jobs i created, beginning with what I made for myself and that of my family and friends to begin with. Then, with jobs I did for my clients.
