How many points should you earn weekly in order to gain a TC badge?

August 6, 2010 - 2:15 pm 3 Comments

I had a Top Contributor badge in Books & Authors (this was like a year ago) but I have decided to gain it back. How do I do this? Do the weekly points have anything to do with this?

Points per week aren’t even considered in the TC formula. Being a TC has nothing to do with points. It’s all about how many best answers you get. Most users believe that 40-50 answers in 3 weeks with 20 of them (or so) being best answers will get you the badge, but that’s all speculation. It may depend on the category’s popularity — but again, it’s speculation. No one can tell you the exact requirements (Yahoo keeps it secret so that it cannot be easily abused). It’s entirely possible to gain a TC badge in a category in one week, with enough best answers.

I got 20 best answers in Accounts & Passwords in 2 weeks and didn’t get the badge. But I got 10 best answers the next week and got the badge (for 30 best answers in 3 weeks). But I’ve been able to get TC badges in other categories with a LOT less best answers, so it may differ between categories.

Basically, if you want the badge, just keep contributing to the best of your ability and vote for yourself as best answer when you can. The more best answers you get in a category, the more likely you are to get a badge in that category. Don’t get discouraged if you don’t get the badge for a couple weeks.

Also, it’s dynamic and will go away if you don’t keep getting best answers in the category you are a TC in. In my experience, 5-10 best answers in the TC category per week will make the badge remain. It’s much harder to gain a badge than it is to lose it from my experiences.

What happens if a firm buys back their stock and cancells it weekly?

August 6, 2010 - 2:15 pm 1 Comment

Scenario: Fantastic performing corporation that decides to use it’s huge net profit after tax on cancelling stock weekly, making the availability of their stock ever so slightly less available to buyers. Have you ever experienced this as a shareholder? Any distinctive attributes in such a case?
Thanks John.

This can be great for shareholders since it decreases supply of the stock and drives the price up. When corporations have cash, they can hold it, pay it in a dividend, reinvest it in the company or aquire other businesses.

Corporate leaders often have an incentive to keep the cash to grow the business and justify higher income for themselves. Often when they do so, they make bad aquisitions or wasteful investments. Quite often the best choice is to pay a dividend or buy back stock. The nice thing about buying back stock is that driving up the price creates not tax consequence until sale, whereas a dividend is immediately taxable.

I consider stock buyback programs as indicators of good corporate stewardship.

How much do bean plants grow weekly?

August 6, 2010 - 2:09 pm 3 Comments

Well. I had this science experiment i was supposed to do. But when i was growing my plants i never did the experiment, so now i have to make up results. All i need to know is how much typical bean plants grow weekly. The first 3-4 weeks would be great.

Well, no one can answer that question because we don’t know how your seeds were grown, in soil, in water? I think you should have done the experiment. A typical bean seed will sprout in soil within 2 or 3 days and then grow about 2 to 4 inches a week. There are so many factors to decrease or increase the growth rate that it’s really not a question that can be answered unless you do the experiment. This is definitely not an answer you can get by making short cuts. It’s actually offensive to those of us who do our work. Think about it.

August 6, 2010 - 2:08 pm 2 Comments

I upgraded to outlook 2007 and i like to print out my calendar per week in "Weekly Style", daily boxes top to bottom, but now all my info gets cut off of the box instead of wrap texting like it used to, how do i change this so all the info stays within the boxes? if anyone could help i would greatly appreciate it. thank you.

Having a printed copy of your Outlook calendar can be quite convenient. If the available printing options aren’t sufficient for your needs you should try the Microsoft Calendar Printing Assistant for Outlook 2007. The Calendar Printing Assistant supports a wide variety of layout templates and allows you to print multiple shared calendars at once.

I want to reduce my tax refund next year – and increase my weekly pay. How do I do this?

August 6, 2010 - 2:08 pm 3 Comments

I have already taken the maximum number of exemptions. Are there other ways to reduce the deductions taken weekly?

There really is no MAXIMUM number of exemptions. Fill out a new W4 form with your employer.

how do i work out my weekly income from my annual income?

August 6, 2010 - 2:01 pm 6 Comments

I’m self employed and have been on jury service so i need to work out an average weekly income from my last tax return.
Basically how many weeks do i divide my annual income by?
I don’t think it is 52 because you don’t work 52 weeks per year, you have to allow for holiday.

See if this will help

UK only. What are the advantages to my employer for instigating four weekly payment of wages?

August 6, 2010 - 2:00 pm 4 Comments

I’ve been paid four weekly by a previous employer and it sucks! I have to pay most of my household bills (council tax, gas and electric, water rates etc monthly and there are often discrepancies between the dates leaving me penniless or even in arrears for which I suffer punitive bank charges.

I don’t think that there are any advantages to your employers unless you are going from weekly paid to 4 weekly pay, in which case they will gain one months interest from their bankers (and you don’t). But, it’s horses for courses really. My employer moved us from 4 weekly to monthly pay, and I wish that they hadn’t! Being paid 4 weekly means that you are paid 13 times a year rather than 12. That means that you get a ‘free’ month effectively because all of your direct debits are paid 12 times a year. Sure, you have to remember to have enough when all the bills are due on their set days.

how much is a peak weekly ticket from Chalkwell to London Fenchurch street station?

August 6, 2010 - 2:00 pm 1 Comment

Experienced commuters! How much is a C2C weekly peak ticket from Chalkwell station to London Fenchurch st station? I can do without the underground travelcard if it saves me more. Many thanks!

A weekly (7 day) National Rail season ticket between Chalkwell and Fenchurch Street will cost you £65.20.

Season tickets are valid any time of the day, so you don’t have to worry about Peak and Off-Peak versions. There’s one ticket and you can use it whenever during the 7 day period. You can either buy the season ticket from a manned ticket office or online. You will require a National Rail Photocard, and must have one before you buy.
